TEAM COMPANIES ANNOUNCES GRAND OPENING OF NEW WORLD-CLASS DATA CENTER IN DES MOINES METRO AREA
Iowa Health System Joint Partner in New “Fail-Safe” Data Center
January 28, 2010
TEAM Companies, in conjunction with Iowa Health System, has announced the grand opening of a new world-class data center in Waukee, near the Des Moines metro area. The new TEAM Technologies Data Center is located at 390 N. Alice’s Road.
The $15 million first phase of the facility will house data for Iowa Health System’s patient and employee records. Iowa Health System employs more than 19,000 workers throughout the state, and treats one out of every four Iowans requiring medical care. “When we’re dealing with millions of records every year that contain confidential and critical information, it requires the utmost care and expertise,” said William B. Leaver, Iowa Health System president and CEO. “Iowa Health System and TEAM Technologies thoroughly and completely understand the responsibility associated with maintaining and managing this data.”
Upon completion of all three phases of construction, the facility will be 46,000 square feet, achieving one-of-a-kind classification as a “fail-safe” facility, built to protect vital information and virtually eliminate the chance of catastrophic failure.
Unique features in the building design include: retina scanners for personal identification, the ability to withstand an F4 tornado, 14-24 inch concrete and steel reinforced walls, a fire detection system that can identify smoke molecules present at 1/100th of a percent, and multiple levels of redundancy and backup (built upon an N+1 schema methodology).
“In addition to being fail-safe facilities, our data centers are designed from the ground up for energy and cooling efficiency, providing minimal impact on the environment and local community,” said Mark Kittrell, vice president of business development for TEAM Technologies. “It’s an investment in the future of our industry to continuously protect our environment and enhance our services.”
“The technology industry in Iowa is continuously growing and this new facility provides a boost to Iowa’s economy, supporting and expanding employment,” said Jeff Rossate, business development division administrator with the Iowa Department of Economic Development. “This data center and others are helping to further position Iowa as a progressive leader in technology.”
This project received sales tax incentives equivalent to about $550,000 and property tax incentives of roughly $350,000. “We believe the TEAM Technologies Data Center is a true partnership between Iowa Health System, the State of Iowa, the City of Waukee and TEAM Companies,” said Kate Miller, director of channel development at Team Companies. “We’re proud to call this community home and look forward to a long, rewarding relationship.”
TEAM Companies’ latest data center in the Des Moines, Iowa, metro area joins two other facilities in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, and Cedar Falls, Iowa, to create a network of world-class data centers.
